Prakash Subbarao....picture perfect.

 About Me

My name is Prakash Subbarao (Cell: (91)9019 548 565). I am from Bangalore.

Specifically, for the minority who are interested in details, I am a Brahmin from the Babburkamme community, a community which is over 1200 years old.

I have been in the marketing stream since 1975, when I joined a British MNC called Chloride India Limited in Calcutta as a Management Trainee. By age 35 I was a National sales manager of a company in the billion dollar Murugappa Group in Chennai.

I am a mechanical engineer from UVCE (1974 batch). I have undergone short term management training at Indian Institutes of Management Ahmadabad and Bangalore (residential executive training programs).

I am a marketing and management consultant and in addition have picked up technical expertise on internet search areas such as “Search Engine optimization” (SEO). I offer SEO consultancy to companies.

I have been running Spark Consultants (my own company) in Bangalore since 1988.

I took Spark Consultants to Dubai between 1998 and 2004, and was based there during that period. I am now based in Bangalore, India.

The above pic is of me trying to be photographed with a wild camel. The story of our encounter is interesting......the camel in the background is a famous camel. Thanks to me, it became the first camel from UAE on the Internet! But that's another story................

Some interesting things that I have done in the past:

  1. Started my own consulting company, Spark Consultants, in 1988.

  2. Ran Bangalore’s first corporate bulletin board service (BBS) called SparkNet in pre-internet days with a dedicated server and a dedicated telephone line, using Galacticomm BBS Software. It also enabled downloading of resumes from the BBS in (almost) real time.

  3. Created an HRD magazine called Techno Spark that was, in its heydays, mailed free of cost to thousands of companies all over South India. It supplied summarized résumés from A (Accountants) to W (Welders) to companies. It was something “different”. It opened very many doors for me……….from Birla 3M to TVS Suzuki and many companies in between.

  4. Developed Spark Consultants into Bangalore’s largest internet services company during the period 1990 – 1998 and boasted a blue chip clientele.

  5. Was invited to address the Indo-American Chamber Of Commerce, Bangalore, India in 1996 as a specialist speaker on how to use the Internet to increase business.

  6. Created a 450 page portal on Dubai. Sold it some time ago to a British real estate company in Dubai. Excited by this, I am now working on several other portals.

  7. Created The Bangalore Quiz Group in September 2004. Today it is a highly respected quiz group in India renowned for the very high quality that it maintains.  How and why I started the Bangalore Quiz Group makes interesting reading.

  8. Created India's first paid quizzing programs, BQG BUSINESS BQG GENERAL and BQG FAMILY PACK which are doing very well. BQG BUSINESS is a coaching platform for serious quizzers who wish to prepare for the national quizzes such as Brand Equity, Tata Crucible etc. and we have most of India's top quizzers as members.

  9. Have quizmastered quizzes for the corporate sector, for colleges as well as schools in India and abroad.

  10. Was the Quiz Club Facilitator of the Bethany School Quiz Club between 2007 and 2010. Had a lot of fun and developed a very healthy respect for the tremendous intelligence that Indian children possess!

  11. The bug to do my bit for society bit me some time in 2007. Started an anti-corruption portal, BangaloreGiri. It's doing very well! If you see this, and are from Bangalore........ and would like to do your bit for Bangalore, become a member! All you need to do, to become a member, is to send me an email. Please also tell all your friends about this initiative.

  12. Starting 1st may 2010, I was the Chief Strategist, Digital Marketing at Pepper Square. Took over as Chief Operating Officer on 1st December 2010 but had to leave in March 2011 as my health deteriorated. I am back at Pepper square at Chief Strategist - Search Marketing (w.e.f. 1st September 2011).

  13. At Pepper Square I have overseen cutting edge SEO for multibillion companies such as Wipro and other large majors such as Max Healthcare, Mindtree, Manthan Systems, etc. The work done was unique and the learning process was awesome. More important, we got results for the companies involved.
