What is interesting about
this image, taken in the reception area of a Bangkok massage parlor is that
the 12 handed deity at the far left is the Japanese Goddess of Mercy,
Kwanon.
Kwanon was the inspiration
behind the name of the Japanese camera brand Canon whose
original logo featured the Goddess.
Strangely it is believed that Kwanon
was originally an Indian male God named Avalokiteshwara!
Avlokiteshwara, ("the Lord who
looks down") is a
bodhisattva (an enlightened being) who embodies the compassion of
all Buddhas. So next time someone asks you to connect the Japanese brand
Canon to India, you know what to say!
