The Green Tree
The island’s northern section
is known as "the Portuguese Valley". This region is humidity-rich
and naturally-vegetated. The Green Tree Complex is in this area.
A large banyan tree (called The Green Tree) attracts thousands of
tourists to this place. This tree is said to have been brought to
Iran from India. Some of the natives-- including many tourists --
believing that this tree is sacred, tie pieces of cloth or fabric to
it and ask for blessing.
The Green Tree is alleged to be 500 to 600 years old.
We found a monkey chained to the tree - a very sad looking monkey
indeed. It was sitting outside on a branch in spite of the very hot
temperature. For photographs of the monkey
